Upon this barren land I lay
With my eyes wide open
And my lips sewn shut;
Immobile, under this leaden sky
Like still water
Reflecting this floating madness.
Tomorrow
If I still don’t move,
Don’t trample on me
As though I am gone.
I am saving my breath
For a new day to come
For a new day to emerge
From the depth
Of these rotten ones.
Beautiful words. I like the worlds you create

The picture conveys the feeling as eloquently as the words.

The last five lines hit me harder than anything else I’ve read today. As someone who’s been battling depression for almost ten years, they sum up so many of the emotions I’ve felt and endured.
I’m building a Facebook page, “Found Online,” where I can link to poems I really enjoy for others to explore. This poem is one I chose to link to. Check out the page at: https://www.facebook.com/joestoutfoundonline
